Since DePauw is a private, liberal arts institution, it certainly attracts a different kind of student: the modern day environmentalist. Since arriving on campus, I have seen nothing but compact fluorescent light bulbs and recycling bins EVERYWHERE. It is really great!
As if that were not enough, last year several students started a petition to ban the sale of bottled water on campus. Interesting to say the least. The campus maintenance crew is now busy installing what they’re calling “Hydration Stations.” More or less, it’s a glorified water fountain that fits onto the top of current water fountains and can be used to fill reusable water fountains.
In addition, they just replaced a campus police cruiser with a Toyota Prius. This place is awesome.
UPDATE: I just discovered that they have a place on trash cans in their dining halls for composting. wow.
